ALTHOUGH THIS
IS LOCAL, IT APPLIES EVERYWHERE!
With the increasing elderly population and
with Fort Drum veterans settling here, we have an increased need for
handicapped parking places in Watertown.
We need to change the requirement percentages.
We also need to stress that the "empty" spaces that say "no
parking at any time" next to a handicapped space are essential for
persons with a side entry lift for a wheel chair. Parking there can
leave the wheelchair firmly locked into the vehicle.
People also need to be alert to the fact that some wheelchair
lift vans exit from the back, which is more dangerous for the
wheelchair user and an attendant.
If you imagine yourself in the place of the handicapped person,
then you will think and behave differently. Imagine not being able to
have any say in what is purchased for your use, from cosmetics to
candy to clothes!
Give your fellow man a break!

P.S.
It is hard to be that one in the chair, but sometimes a very
real handicap doesn't "show"!.
LET ME ADD:
Stupidity isn't a handicap - park somewhere else!
